Important notere terminology used in this book
*As we work throughout Australia and New Zealand we find that different terms are used for education support, staff and programs. In this book we are going to use the term “Teacher Assistant” for Education Support Staff, Teacher Aides, Education Support Officers etc. We will also use the term ‘Learning Enrichment’ for Education Support Program, Special Needs, Learning Assistance, Education Support etc.
Note re terminology for ASD. Please note that we are using Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to refer to Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, PDD NOS. We believe these strategies also work for students with ADHD, ADD, ODD, Learning Difficulties etc. However we will use the term ASD to encompass a range of students who need successful strategies for secondary school.
