Recognising OCD in The Classroom
OCD is a cycle of intrusive thoughts, overwhelming distress, compulsive behaviours taken to relieve that distress, and brief relief, followed immediately by the next intrusive thought. For autistic students, this cycle is intensified by the very traits that define how they experience the world: deep focus, pattern-seeking, sensitivity to uncertainty, and a heightened need for things to feel “right.”
Dean Beadle was diagnosed autistic at age nine. He has been navigating OCD for 27 years working, presenting, building relationships, and living a full life, all while managing an invisible condition that has at times felt relentless. In this course, Dean shares, with remarkable honesty and clarity, what OCD actually feels like from the inside. Not the textbook version. The real version.
This course will change how you see the students in your classroom. You will finish it knowing what to look for, what to say, and what to do.
