Informed by both her lived experience and the latest academic, evidence-based research, Temple shares her valuable insights into how to increase a student’s engagement and participation in education and beyond.

Temple Grandin did not speak until she was three and a half. She was diagnosed with Autism, and the experts at the time urged her parents to institutionalise her. Temple was bullied and teased at school, and even expelled from one of her high schools. However, through the encouragement and strategies used by her mother and teacher (Dr Carlock), Temple went onto a hugely successful career in animal behaviour and has become a trailblazing spokesperson for people with autism. Her incredible story is the subject of the Emmy Award winning movie, “Temple Grandin”

Some of Dr Temple Grandin’s achievements include:

  • One of the most influential people in the world according to TIME Magazine’s annual honours list for 2010. Where she was named alongside Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Steve Jobs.
  • National Women’s Hall of Fame inductee in 2017. For her research and advocacy but most importantly her impact on young women everywhere, breaking into a largely male -dominated animal production industry
  • Professor at Colorado State University for over 20 years.
  • In 2020, Temple was named in Top 10 College Professors in the United States (CEOWORLD Magazine)
  • More than 6 Million views of her Ted Talk that outlined Three different ways of Autistic Ways of Thinking
  • The subject of HBO award-winning film about her life including her childhood, career and accomplishments. The HBO Movie starred Clare Danes and won 5 Emmys.
  • Completed a Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Animal Science

If you are considering completing this course, I couldn't more highly recommend doing it! As an agriculture teacher (secondary setting), I find myself teaching a wide diversity of students' learning abilities, so I am always looking for strategies to differentiate content so all students can learn. This course has not only provided me with ideas and strategies I can use in my classroom for students on the spectrum, but strategies that may help all students learn in my classes. 13568750995 Oct 11 2022 11:17 PM
I am an art therapist so I do not have a classroom as such. But I do have the occasional client who is on the spectrum. Your course has given me insight, guidance, tools, methods of working from the positive, not the negative. That to me is so important. All of this will help me to understand the child/client for who they are and not just their behaviour. It opens up opportunities for help in other areas that may exist. So thank you Sue and thank you for your passion that shone through the whole course. 13565267429 Oct 05 2022 09:31 PM
Just DO IT!!!!!! 13563701424 Oct 03 2022 10:15 AM
Regardless of your experience there is always something to learn, a great refresher and a validation of what you already do. L0ts on AHAH moments, "that's why I do that". Other staff members in my faculty now have a greater appreciation of why as HT i do things the way I do, so that has been a powerful leadership tool/ 13563693111 Oct 03 2022 09:52 AM
Very informative, lot of learning 13563642206 Oct 03 2022 07:00 AM
Your courses are always practical and give so many ideas to take home. But I would say, Go to the course with questions in your mind and think of a couple of real children who you can think about as case studies in your own mind. 13562435024 Sep 30 2022 03:51 PM
All info is relevant and useful. Sue's enthusiasm is contagious, and Temple's directness is appreciated. Wonderfully done. It gives me hope as a parent with an autistic son, and provides me with a vast array of knowledge and strategies to use in my teaching practice. Melaine Osolinsky 13562032156 Sep 30 2022 01:24 AM

practical information 13462527920 May 04 2022 12:29 PM
Good content, but takes a long time to get through. I struggled finding the time to get through it all. 13452018421 Apr 22 2022 09:16 AM

The course was very engaging with the discussions with Temple, to Sue sharing her lived experiences as a teacher. It was well divided into smaller achievable chunks.  You may have a different experience to that of Temple and or Sue but remember it always good to see things from another perspective. To know someone with ASD is not to know ASD. Just as neuro-typical people have many similarities and differences; so do neuro-diverse people. Everyone is an unique individual, just as identical twins are individual people so are people with ASD.

You will learn strategies and tips that can be used across the spectrum of people.

You will come away richer in knowledge for completing it, even if it is only  a few things. If not re-watch it you obviously didn't have your growth mindset engaged.

13451400652 Apr 21 2022 10:53 PM
It gives you a completely different insight into people with autism. I don’t think I have actually attended a PD before run by someone with autism. 13448967239 Apr 19 2022 09:26 PM

Its very practical and it’s able to guide

it is informative to my understanding on how Temple viewed her lived experiences. These were helpful to my understanding to translate persistence to students and parents 13265004706 Jan 17 2022 11:04 PM
It helps you understand why your student makes seemingly unconnected comments during a lesson and why they behave the way they do- there is always a reason! Practical, relevant and easily implemented strategies. 13263346859 Jan 16 2022 10:21 PM

This course provides a unique understanding into the world of Autism through the eyes of Temple.  Sue - your ability to pull things out of Temple was great. Then your summary and explanations were precise/to the point.  I also loved that I was able to watch the videos when I had the time.  Running a business (clinic) training staff and juggling my own case load is difficult enough. Adding education to keep my license adds to the stress. But, pacing my self with your course was great.  I didn't feel pressured to finish in a week. 13254197311 Jan 12 2022 02:55 PM
Do it.  There is so much relevant information, both lived and researched. 13251278948 Jan 11 2022 12:48 PM

I liked the clips from the movie, as well as Sue’s summary at the end of each lesson.

I found that key points were reinforced and practical suggestions offered.

I loved Sue’s positively and the examples given by both Sue and Temple of positive outcomes following a ‘loving push’.

The downloadable documents are also great as I will certainly keep referring back to them.

Thank you for all that you do, Sue.
